I have yet to see any difference from social media and I am talking from watching my traffic stats both whilst trying to drum up any interest on twitter,facebook etc and when not making any effort..I have friends but they do not seem interested in what I have to say but contact me when they want to sell me something.I do feel like I am "batting my head".I am even running a photography competition at the moment but nobody wants to enter;I suspect because I am not a big name.People only trust big names.The very people who are skinning them on prices and faulty goods they will not replace."Little Joe's"like me they do not trust.The gurus.Do you really still open their emails?.Come on let me hear from you guys... & dolls (do not want to be sexist.You GOTTA' be so carefull.How many of you open and actually purchase from scam emails?.We all hate them! I personally will not set up email campaigns;I think it is unwanted not nice and smacks of greed.The competition! OhYeah! It is on my website.You will find it if you want to,no spam here!

Comment by Joe Cheray on February 15, 2011 at 6:01pm: Well Kenni I do admit that I think the "Guru's" have made it hard for the avg marketer to get an edge. Dare I say it for fear of getting blasted but I don't follow many of them because most of their products are too much for the avg person to afford. I can see to some degree the method to their madness but if I am going to spend $500 for example on a guru product they better have their t's crossed and their i's dotted and over deliver on their product or service and I better be able to get a hold of them one on one at anytime.

I think that social media and networking still is powerful if nothing else it can at least build more connections and there is that 6 degree's of separation. I don't put all my eggs in one basket either. I guess it just comes down to what you are wanting to accomplish and what your goals are.

Comment by kenni jefferies on February 15, 2011 at 10:26am: I have to admit defeat with social media.Nobody wants to know about you or what you have to say.I have watched my stats carefully and it has hardly effect on traffic.My traffic is growing well organically through normal seo,going up month on month.Whether I use social media or not makes no difference.I have tried all sorts of questions but people are not interested.The fact is that so many guru's are trying to sell useless schemes and making it seem as if there are millions to be made.There might be some for big names but I doubt they make much from it.I have watched some companies and I seriously doubt they are getting any extra trade from social media.You see they are all there hoping to make money not spend money.I could be wrong but the research I have done tells me it is all pie in the sky.Hard work on your seo and fresh content every day on your site brings in more traffic.Sorry there is still no easy option in social media as far as I can discover.

That way you have that testimonial if you will to show perspective and existing clients what others are doing so they can see the proof for themselves. I hope this helps in light of the fact I don't know who your clients are.
